Vodafone Group, the world’s second-largest mobile carrier, based in Newbury, England, bought Kabel Deutschland Holding for $10.1 billion, edging out Liberty Global for access to the German company’s 8.5 million cable customers. The deal, which will help the wireless company move into the TV and broadband markets, will probably have to be approved by antitrust regulators at the European Commission.


An unidentified bidder offered $2.1 billion to Malkin Holdings for the Empire State Building, the second bid received as Malkin moves to take the landmark public.
