The Workday Workout

David Barton, owner of New York-based fitness chain David Barton Gym, suggests exercises to meet your workday constraints.

If you don’t want to sweat

Try a few sets of strength-training moves, but with low reps. Pilates or yoga (but not hot yoga) work too. Of course, this isn’t foolproof — some people are just sweaty.

If you’re on a conference call

Use a headset and do lower body exercises. Try the leg press. Be careful to mind the grunting and heavy breathing.

If you’re working out next to your boss

This is the time to lift a Herculean amount of weight and scare the s--- out of him. This is a good time for intimidation.

If you only have 30 minutes

You want to do something that uses multiple muscle groups. Dead weight lifts are good. Or a rowing machine.

If you’re still wearing work clothes

I’ve never seen anyone do this. If you’re in a three-piece suit and don’t care what folks think, try the treadmill.
