In 2004 parking lot magnate Frank McCourt and his wife, Jamie, paid $400 million for a controlling interest in the then-ailing Los Angeles Dodgers. Eight years and one messy divorce later, Frank sold the team for $2 billion — a U.S. pro sports record by a factor of two — to a group that included Guggenheim Partners, Magic Johnson, and Hollywood producer Peter Guber.
