The Lineup

Watch, listen, read, enjoy

1 After the Music Stopped: The Financial Crisis, the Response, and the Work Ahead, by Alan Blinder (Penguin Press) $29.95

In his heady account of the 2007 financial crisis, Blinder, a Princeton economist, ex-Federal Reserve vice chairman, and former Businessweek columnist, also ponders deficit reduction and lays out a Fed “exit strategy.”

2 Movie 43 Opening Jan. 25

Toilet humor reigns in this collection of comedy vignettes that stars a bafflingly large A-list cast — everyone from Hugh Jackman to Halle Berry to Emma Stone — which aims, with great success, for maximum shock value. Produced by Peter Farrelly, the four-year project was overseen by 12 directors.

3 The Inventor and the Tycoon, by Edward Ball (Doubleday) $29.95

Set at the end of the 19th century, this true crime story centers on Eadweard Muybridge, who pioneered stop-motion photography with the help of railroad tycoon Leland Stanford. The inventor was also a cold-blooded murderer.
