1 A Delicate Truth by John Le Carre (Viking), $28.95

The spy novelist’s 23rd book, about a counterterrorist operation, is vintage Le Carre: heavy on espionage and light on politics. The 81-year-old writer is having a moment, thanks to the 2011 film adaptation of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and the 50th anniversary of his first novel, The Spy Who Came in From the Cold.

2 Modern Vampires of the City by Vampire Weekend, to be released on May 14, $9.99 on iTunes

The long-awaited third album from the rhythm-happy rock group made up of four Columbia University graduates. Preview tracks on YouTube, for songs such as Step, suggest the band is clinging to its popular, lucrative formula of upbeat, summery music and witty lyrics.

3 The Iceman Premieres on May 3

Michael Shannon portrays real-life mob contract killer Richard Kuklinski, a man who claims to have murdered upwards of 200 people, including Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. Supporting players include James Franco and Chris Evans.
