Ningxia Province

Home to the Hui, a large Muslim minority, Ningxia is one of China’s top wine regions. The government is promoting the growth of a boutique-style industry.


The capital’s outskirts are a hotbed for vineyards, though the winters are cold. Winemakers have to bury the grapes to protect them from frost.

Shaanxi Province

Qingyun Ma, a champion of Chinese winemaking, started the Jade Valley vineyard here after deciding the area was similar to Italy’s grape-growing regions.

Shandong Province

The Napa Valley of China, boast locals. It recently welcomed the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) estate, in addition to other foreign winemakers.
